چکیده

9 This article explores the conditions under which agents will cooperate in one-shot two-player Prisoner’s 10 Dilemma games if they are able to withdraw from playing the game and can learn to recognize the 11 trustworthiness of their opponents. When the agents display a number of symbols and they learn which 12 symbols are important to estimate the trustworthiness of others, agents will evolve who cooperate in games 13 in line with experimental observations. These results are robust to significant levels of mutations and errors 14 made by the players. 15 © 2006 Published by Elsevier B.V. 16 JEL classification: B52; C70 17

The emergence of commitments and cooperation

Our results suggest that human specialized capacity for commitment, which might have been shaped by natural selection, consists in a capacity for managing to impose a high cost of punishment at a relatively small cost. Population Fluctuation Promotes Cooperation in Networks

We consider the problem of explaining the emergence and evolution of cooperation in dynamic network-structured populations. Building on seminal work by Poncela et al., which shows how cooperation (in one-shot prisoner's dilemma) is supported in growing populations by an evolutionary preferential attachment (EPA) model, we investigate the effect of fluctuations in the population size. We find th...

Empathy in One-Shot Prisoner Dilemma

Strategic decision making involves affective and cognitive functions like reasoning, cognitive and emotional empathy which may be subject to age and gender differences. However, empathy-related changes in strategic decision-making and their relation to age, gender and neuropsychological functions have not been studied widely. In this article, we study a oneshot prisoner dilemma from a psycholog...

Endogenous Neighborhood Selection and the Attainment of Cooperation in a Spatial Prisoner’s Dilemma Game

There is a large literature in economics and elsewhere on the emergence and evolution of cooperation in the repeated Prisoner’s Dilemma. Recently this literature has expanded to include cooperation in spatial prisoner dilemma games where agents play only with local neighbors in a specified geography. In this paper we explore how the ability of agents to move and choose new locations and new nei...
